Raising Assets

A track record is not distribution. We help with the second part.

Introductions to qualified allocators and private clients, as well as platforms where your strategy gets discovered. Find your clients by partnering with BTR.

BTR makes introductions. No representation is made that any introduction will result in an allocation, or that assets will be raised.

How managers get found

Six things that put a program in front of capital

Some of this is introductions. A surprising amount of it is having the operational side in order before anybody looks closely.

Qualified allocators

Introductions to allocators whose mandate actually matches what you trade. A well-aimed introduction beats a broad one, and it beats fifty of them.

Private clients

BTR works with private traders, high-net-worth individuals and family offices directly. Programs that suit them get put in front of them.

Marketplace listing

AlgoEX puts systems and CTA programs where people go looking for them, with the terms and disclosures shown on each listing.

Platform distribution

Being available where allocators already operate removes one more reason for somebody to pass without looking.

Diligence-ready reporting

Clean position and P&L reporting, produced on request rather than assembled in a panic. Operations get judged as closely as returns.

Execution that holds up

A manager whose fills, clearing and reporting are unremarkable is a manager who is easy to allocate to.

What you need in place

Before an introduction is worth making

An introduction spends credibility — yours and ours. These are the things that make it worth spending.

  1. A documented program

Rules, markets, holding period, capacity and risk approach, written down. Allocators ask, and the ones who do not ask are rarely the ones you want.

  2. Records that reconcile

A performance history that ties out against statements. Anything that requires explaining twice is a problem before it is a conversation.

  3. Regulatory standing

Registration and disclosure documents appropriate to what you do and who you are speaking with. Your compliance counsel leads here, not us.

  4. Capacity and honesty about it

How much the program can take before it degrades. Saying so early builds more trust than discovering it later does.

BTR provides introductions and does not solicit investments on behalf of any trading advisor. No representation is made that an introduction will result in an allocation. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results, and any performance information is presented by the trading advisor subject to applicable disclosure requirements.

Questions

The ones worth asking early

Can you guarantee you will raise assets for me?

No, and anyone who says otherwise is worth walking away from. We make introductions to people whose mandate fits what you trade. Whether they allocate is their decision, based on your program and their own diligence.

How is BTR compensated for this?

Arrangements are agreed in writing with each manager before any introduction is made, and any compensation is disclosed to the parties involved as required.

Do I need a track record?

Practically, yes — most allocators want to see one, and the ones who do not usually want something else instead, such as a team with a history elsewhere. We will tell you honestly whether we think a program is ready to be shown.

Do you present my performance for me?

Performance is presented by you, in your own disclosure documents, subject to the rules that govern how it must be shown. What we do is introduce you to people who might want to read it.

What if my program is small?

Then the honest answer may be that it is early. Emerging managers are a real part of what we work with, but matching a small program to the wrong allocator wastes everyone’s time. We would rather say so than take the meeting.

Talk to someone who knows.

A quick phone call will tell you more than an hour on any website. Tell us what you are trying to do and we will tell you whether we are the right fit for it.
